Data Breach Hits 47,000 Patients Of Long Term Care Facilities

If You Or a Loved One Was Affected By The American Medical Technologies Data Breach, You Could Receive Compensation

A supplier of medical supplies to long term care facilities was hit with a serious data breach that compromised the personal information of over 47 thousand patients. Despite first detecting the breach in December of 2019, the affected patients were only notified on June 18th.

What Happened?

On December 17th, 2019, American Medical Technologies first detected suspicious behavior occurring within one employee email account. An investigation was launched with assistance from a third-party forensics team, which included a data mining process.

Five months later, the investigation revealed personal information was potentially accessible to the attacker during the security incident. AMT will provide impacted patients with free credit monitoring services. The investigation confirmed the attacker potentially had access to protected health information such as names, medical record numbers, Social Security numbers, diagnosis information, health insurance policy numbers, subscriber numbers, medical histories, HIPAA account information, driver’s license/state identification numbers, and/or taxpayer ID numbers.

If you received a letter from AMT informing you that your personal information was compromised in this breach, you could receive compensation.

I Was Notified, But Have Never Heard Of AMT

American Medical Technologies is a medical supply company servicing many long term care facilities across the country. If you or a loved one received a letter notifying you that your data was breached, it was most likely information related to a stay in a long term care facility serviced by AMT.

Under California’s Confidentiality of Medical Information Act, any individual may bring an action against any person or entity that has negligently released confidential information or records, for either or both nominal damages of $1,000 and the amount of actual damages, if any, sustained by the patient.
