Are Your Supplements Hiding A Deadly Secret?

A healthy 22 year man complains of chest pains after finishing up some sets at the gym. At the hospital, he’s told he’s in the middle of a heart attack. Two US Army soldiers, ages 22 and 32, collapse and die of heart attacks during routine training exercises. A New Zealand man spends 15 days in the hospital with a large cerebral hemorrhage, or brain bleed, after consuming a pill he thought was a harmless stimulant.

All 4 men had taken supplements containing a chemical compound known as DMAA– also known as “1,3 Dimethylamylamine”, “geranium extract”, Geranamine, and Methylhexanamine, among other names. As a form of amphetamine, it is often found in popular pre-workout drinks & pills, designed to give a user extra energy during hard workout sessions. Unfortunately for its often unaware victims, DMAA can cause shortness of breath, chest pain, heart attack, and death, especially when combined with other stimulants such as caffeine.

Often sold as a “natural” and “safe” stimulant, DMAA was banned as an ingredient in human food products by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2016, but like other common, dangerous ingredients it can still be found in many popular workout and sexual enhancement products today. These amphetamine deratives are not found in nature, are often produced overseas in unsanitary conditions, and are being illegally marketed as dietary ingredients in America.

Another FDA-banned substance, Methylsynephrine, is also common, especially in preworkout mixes. Products containing methylsynephrine, also known as oxilofrine or p-hydroxyephedrine, have been linked to nausea, vomiting, agitation, increased heart rate, chest pain, and cardiac arrest.
